12/08/09:
Club meeting, 7pm – Valpo Public Library
Minutes of the 11/10/09 Meeting:
Bear
called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM
In honor
of Veterans' Day, Bear asked all of the veterans in the room stand to be
recognized by the other club members. After a round of applause the Pledge
of Allegiance was recited.
Bear
introduced Olivia and her mother to the club (I'm sorry - I didn't get her
last name) and presented her with a check for $500 to help with her medical
expenses. Her mother expressed her gratitude and thanked everyone.
What a cutie she is!
Bear
asked if everyone had received a copy of the minutes, either by email or
regular mail. There were no corrections and the minutes were approved as
written. However, there was a written correction from Tom Milanowski. The
club has voted to make a donation to Tom's daughter, Sara, to help defray
medical costs. It was originally stated that Sara has no insurance. However,
that was an error. There is some insurance, but it is limited. The benefit
at the Lowell VFW is to help pay for the medical expenses that are not
covered by insurance and other living expenses.
A card
was passed around for Sandy Morgan. She was released that day from the
hospital after battling H1N1.
The club
still has not been paid by Harbor for the members that drove for the auction
at Valpo Vette Fest. Gino stated that he would not make the check out to the
club but would make it out to a charity. It was then suggested that we send
them information for Tom's daughter and the club would make up the
difference.
Diane
gave the Treasurer's report. During the month of October there was $250.13
in revenue and $596.00 in disbursements. There were no corrections to the
treasurer's report and they were filed as written for audit.
Old Business:
It was
decided the food collected would be split between two of the Valparaiso
pantries. Dennis volunteered to get the food there this month.
Peggy
made contact with Porter Memorial Hospital. They do accept toys for the
children for Christmas. The gifts should be suitable for children up to 12
years old. They should be new toys and wrapped. Peggy and Donna will collect
the toys and deliver them to PMH pediatrics after the next meeting.
Rhonda
received an email from the man that used to do our embroidery and we do
still have credit for one jacket. She still has not been able to make
contact with him to get the problem resolved. She gave us information on the
man that does the embroidery for the Crown Point club. Mike Carbine also
suggested Blythe's sport Shop here in Valpo. They have done it in the past
for the club and have a selection of shirts at the store. They can also do
other garments for a slightly higher price.
Mike also
reminded everyone that it is time to reserve the library again, if we want
to continue to hold meetings there. John Miller and Jim Cardin volunteered
to come down to stand in line for the reservation.
It was
also brought to our attention that the YMCA has a very large room available
on Thursday evenings for no charge. It was decided to go ahead with the
library reservation, but to also check further into the Y. It will be
discussed again at the next meeting.
Mike also
let us know that the Viking Chili Bowl is available for a Friday night car
show. The other show has left and moved over by the Harley dealer.
Pam
updated every one on the Christmas party coming up on December 12. She is
collecting and must have checks by Dec 5.
New Business:
Elections
are coming up next month and with that each of our current officers thanked
the fellow club members for their support and stated their objectives for
the upcoming year.
Bear
would like to update the website and make sure that more pictures get
posted. He would also like to see us move to a better and bigger location.
Ray has
been in charge of coordinating activities and would appreciate new ideas for
the upcoming year.
Diane
read a text from Kim thanking everyone for their support. Her objective for
next year is getting the minutes out quicker to the membership.
She would also like to send out any necessary correspondence on
behalf of the club. This would
include, but not be limited to, celebration, sympathy and get well cards,
but to do this effectively she needs the help of the entire club to make her
aware of the need of any such cards or correspondence.
Diane
stated that that she sees her duties divided into two parts:
the business side, which includes the finance and by-law committees,
and the social segment. Since they have worked so hard getting the business
side in order, next year she is concentrating on the social aspects of the
club and having more FUN. She would like to see a summit with other local
clubs and would like to see some joint activities with them
Bear
showed off the new banner and also gave one to Arnell for their showroom.
He also
showed some Valpo Vette window stickers that are available for 50 cents
each. A motion was made and carried that the club by one sticker for every
member and additional ones could be purchased.
Olivia
pulled the winning ticket for 50/50. Frank A. won and received $68.
The 10
Valpo Vette window decals were also given away.
Meeting
was adjourned at 8:10
