Minutes of the 06/12/08 Meeting:

The meeting was called to order by the President, Jim Mikusevich.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Jim Mikusevich asked if everyone received a copy of the minutes, either by email or regular mail.  A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes for the May 2008 meeting.  The membership then approved.

Diane gave the treasurer’s report.  She stated that as of this month there is $6,020.00 in the checking & savings accounts.  A motion was made to accept the treasurer’s report.  It was seconded and approved.

Unfinished Business:

Rhonda, Bear and Mike gave an update on the status of the club jacket.  They had sample sizes of the jackets for members to try-on before placing the order.  The main club emblem will be across the back and for an additional fee members can have their name and / or the C5 or C6 emblem embroidered on the front.  They had order forms for members to fill out and place an order for the jacket.  Saturday, June 14th will be the last day to contact Ed at Graphics Pit Stop to place an order as part of the group.  These coats are being customized by another company before they are sent to Ed for embroidery of our logo.  The sleeves will have custom stitching that reads “Valpo Vettes”.  Because of the set-up involved in the customization, after June 14th the company making the coats will make one at a time for a $40 set up fee.  Any order less than 24 coats will incur this fee.  If new members join or existing members want to place an additional order it was suggested that we wait until a few want to place an order and then the fee can be divided amongst all the coats.  Ed can also embroider the larger Valpo Vette Club emblem on anything we take to him (i.e., sweatshirts, other jackets, etc.).

Mary & Jerry K. had some information on the 30th anniversary dinner cruise to Swan Lake on August 3.  If we have 50 or more people interested in going, we will have to use a caterer.  The manager at Swan Lake would waive the banquet hall fee usually charged.  This would be necessary as to not overwhelm the kitchen staff, which somewhat happened when the club went on May 31st with approximately 18 cars.  A sign-up sheet was passed around to try and judge how many would be interested in attending this event.  More details will follow.

Some of the past month’s events were discussed:

Crown Point Car Show:  Our club had 10 - 12 cars participate and those that participated from our club won 6 out of the 13 trophies.

Indy 500 Cruise:  We had about 28 cars make the trip down to Indy to drive around the track and enjoy a beautiful day.

Stray Dog Cruise:  23 cars made the trip to New Buffalo to enjoy lunch.

Corvettes in the Dells:  A few cars from our club attended this event.  Ask Ken & Cindy or Jim & Mikki for details on this “stormy” adventure.

Swan Lake:  18 cars made the trip to enjoy a nice drive and a good dinner.

Jim D. reviewed the upcoming club events.

Friday Night Cruise-In:  Downtown Valpo every Friday night, 5:30 – 8:30.  See May meeting minutes for more details.

Cruise –In every other Sunday from 12 noon – 6pm at the Quaker Steak & Lube in Portage.

Father’s Day Show:  Porter County Courthouse, Valpo.  Meet at the courthouse at 8 am.  Show will be from 8am until approx. 2pm.

Harbor Show, July 12th:  Bear passed around a sign-up sheet for members to sign up to assist in various capacities.  Members should meet at 8am at Harbor in Michigan City to begin set-up and the show will open at 10 am.  Bear was recruiting members to be judges for the show.  He wants it to be a fun show.  Judging for the show will be from 12:30 – 3pm.  Club members’ cars will not be part of the main judging.  Show participants will judge cars from our club.  There will be no cost to club members.  Bear also asked for members to gather door prizes for the show.  If you have something to donate to the cause or can get a business you know to donate something, please see Bear.

Rensselaer Car Cruise, 7/5 – See Ted F. for more details.

Valpo Vette Fest, 8/15- 8/17 – More details to follow.

Upcoming club runs / cruises:

6/21:  Tabor Hill Winery – sign-up sheet at the meeting, limited space available.  Those going should meet at the old Jewel parking lot in Chesterton at 9 am.

6/29:  Redamak’s – meet at the old Jewel parking lot in Chesterton, 10:30am.

6/26 – 6/29:  Bloomington Gold – Anyone interested in going down together see Bruce O.

  New Business:

Ted led a group of members to Monticello to the White Horse Winery.  They went to the Sportsman for dinner.  He suggested that we may think about putting a run together in the future for the club.  He passed around some information he had regarding things to do in the area.

Ted also suggested a run to Gentleman Tom’s later this fall for their all you can eat pizza for $4 + the cost of a bar drink.

The club picnic was discussed. Chuck C. had details on what the shelter and park entrance fees would be.  The shelter rental fee is $96 (this is a Lake Co. resident discounted price) and each car entering would have to pay $4 for Lake Co. residents / $7 for those outside of Lake Co.  Mikki said that Komos (the caterer we have used the last 2 years) will have a $50 delivery fee and we can change the menu from what we have had in the past.  Members suggested researching possible alternatives.  Marie will research other parks / locations to have the picnic and will bring back info to the next meeting.  Bear volunteered to cook and to recruit other members to help him.  A decision needs to be made on the food and location by the next meeting so planning can move forward for the September event.

It was suggested that due to the increasing size of the club, we research having people participating in club events sign a waiver to protect us against any liability should someone get injured.

The club will have a short August meeting (8/14) and go to the Port Drive-In in Chesterton for root beer.

Beginning 6/20, Lowe’s in Merrillville will be hosting weekly car shows each Monday.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 pm.

50/50 drawing was held and the winner was Greg.
