CORVETTE HISTORY

The Valpo Vette Club began in 1978 with 24 members.
Today there are 72 active members and the club continues to grow.
They are sponsored by Harbor Superstore.
The club meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month at the
Valparaiso Public Library. They
have an annual Corvette show downtown
Valparaiso
in June. This show attracts the
attention of the public to the downtown area and has been supported by the
merchants and the Tourism Board.
The club has taken cruises as far north as
Chatham, Canada and as far south as Bowling Green, Kentucky.
In fact, when the National Corvette Museum celebrated their 5th
anniversary, many of the members participated in the massive Corvette
Caravan to Bowling Green. Club
members have attended the Bloomington Gold Corvettes Show, the Mid-America
Designs Funfest, Route 66 Corvette Show, The Corvette of Carlisle show, and
the Chicago Corvette/Chevy show at McCormick place, both spring and fall
shows. Club members have
participated in countless restorations of their Corvettes with factory
correct results.
For many years the Valpo Vette Club has helped show
organizers with activities during the Midwest Chevy / Vette Fest held in
Valparaiso each year. One past
activity, the Valpo Vette Club helped to promote was the show’s super cruise
through downtown Valparaiso and into Chesterton on the Saturday evening of
the show. Club members
have driven cars for the show’s auction as well.
They have helped with the car show and awards presentations.
Throughout the years, the Corvette has been used as an
official pace car for the Indy 500 race in Indianapolis and some of the club
members own some of these same pace cars.
Whether out cruising, driving to long distances
destinations, entering car shows or just helping out at car shows, Valpo
Vette Club members all share an avid interested in America’s #1 sports car,
the Corvette
